Osamu Tezuka’s 1953-56 manga Ribbon no Kishi (known in English as Princess Knight) is arguably the seminal work of modern shojo manga, as it was the first to apply narrative structure to manga aimed at girls. Its 1967-68 TV series anime adaptation is also easily one of the most influential of all anime titles; nearlyContinue reading “Movie Review: The Ribbon Knight”

Saga of Tanya the Evil II episode 5
Rating: B+ After an episode which focused heavily on Rudersdorf, it’s no surprise that episode 5 shifts the focus to Zettour. What happens to Zettour here would have been expected even I didn’t already know it was coming from the novels (and thus spoke incorrectly about its timing in an earlier review): in speaking toContinue reading “Saga of Tanya the Evil II episode 5”
Saga of Tanya the Evil II episode 4
Rating: A- One thing that this franchise has never previously delved into is the personal costs of the war to anyone on the Empire side. (It has certainly dealt with the personal costs to the Sue/Sioux family, though!) That is one thing new that episode 4 offers. Rudersdorf’s visits to an unspecified grave (possibly thatContinue reading “Saga of Tanya the Evil II episode 4”
Saga of Tanya the Evil II episode 3
Episode Rating: A- In World War 1, Italy started out neutral despite being part of the Triple Alliance with Germany and Austria-Hungary, using the excuse that the Alliance was a defensive pact and Austria-Hungary had gone on the offensive to start the war. Though they claimed to still being allied to Germany and Austria-Hungary, theyContinue reading “Saga of Tanya the Evil II episode 3”
Springs 2026 Wrap-Up
Now that the Spring season is fully over and all of the series I’ve been following have either ended, gone on hiatus, or (in a handful of cases) are continuing into next season, it’s time to look at how the series I followed finished out. My Ribdiculous Reincarnation will not be covered here because IContinue reading “Springs 2026 Wrap-Up”
Ribdiculous Reincarnations – Finale
For all of the different visual and animation styles the series has showcased, and for all its crazy reincarnation scenarios, the most persistent truth throughout My Ribdiciulous Reincarnation is how stone-faced Goddess is. Even when hints of emotion creep through in her words and attitude, her expression has never changed. Since Pale-Haired Emotionless Girl hasContinue reading “Ribdiculous Reincarnations – Finale”
Ribdiculous Reincarnations, part 3
Normally covering two episodes together just means double the reviewing task. In this particular case, though, doing so has greater benefits, as some elements revealed in episode 8 are distinctly linked so some things revealed in episode 7. In other words, the series is finally showing at least greater conceptual connectivity, if not actual plot.Continue reading “Ribdiculous Reincarnations, part 3”
Spring ’26 Mid-Season Report, part 2
See here for part 1. This half covers titles which hit episode 6 on or after 5/10/26. It also includes a special for an older series which happened to debut during the first half of the season. Ascendance of a Bookworm s3 Rating So Far: B While there haven’t been any big events so farContinue reading “Spring ’26 Mid-Season Report, part 2”
Winter 2026 Wrap-Up
Now that the Winter season is fully over and all of the series I’ve been following are either ending or going on hiatus, it’s time to look at how the series I followed finished out. Per usual, the series I’ve been covering in episode reviews (Oshi no Ko and Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End s2) willContinue reading “Winter 2026 Wrap-Up”
Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End season 2 episodes 9-10 (season finale)
Episode 9 Rating: A- Episode 10 Rating: B+ After the conclusion of the Divine Revolte arc, the series returns to its earlier pattern of half-episode vignettes to close out the season, resulting in a remarkably undramatic conclusion to the season which feels more like a break in the adventures than an actual stopping point. EvenContinue reading “Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End season 2 episodes 9-10 (season finale)”
